The Fix for Buell XB9 XB12 w/ Stock or Race ECM & Aftermarket Exhaust / MufflerThe Fix for Buell XB9 XB12 w/ Stock or Race ECM & Aftermarket Exhaust / Muffler
Let's face it, the Buell XB models have a bad reputation when it comes to reliability and tune-ability. Even in stock form they have a tendency to run excessively lean which causes higher temps, loss of performance, and often results in engine damage.
Why is this happening? By default, the Electronic Control Module (ECM) relies on O2 sensor data to compensate for air pressure changes which is mostly prevalent when riding at higher elevations. It is also capable of removing up to a whopping 50% of the fuel flow when it senses a rich condition. When going up a hill for instance, a decrease in oxygen (O2) is sensed and fuel delivery is also decreased. The O2 sensor is the ONLY source of data used for air pressure (elevation) compensation. This is a terrible idea! Why? As these bikes get older and the sensors get dirtier these sensors lose accuracy. Even at sea level the ECM will often sense a false rich condition and reduce fuel delivery without any direct indication that it's doing so. Typical symptoms are poor throttle response, coughing in the intake and excessive popping during deceleration. If you suspect a lean condition this can be verified by checking the Adaptive Fuel Value (AFV) using a BUELLtooth ECM interface and the free Ecmdroid application. Any number lower that 100 means that fuel delivery is being reduced.
Fortunately, Buell ECMs made since 2005 have BAROMETRIC sensing capability built in, but were never utilized by the factory on XB models. By installing our plug in Barometric sensor and installing the provided EEPROM file for you setup you can optimize your ECM with a few clicks on your Android phone or tablet, without losing altitude compensation. In other words, changes in atmospheric pressure are constantly adjusted for based on barometric sensor input and the compensation tables programmed into the ECM. Just the way it is done on every other modern EFI engine! Now you can have full control of your ECM without the negative side effect of running rich at higher elevations. Your engine will run cooler, have increased performance and improved drivability. No tuning expertise of experience is necessary. A matched tune file for the most common exhaust systems is included!
This is the cheap and easy solution you've been waiting for! No cutting of wires or permanent modifications are required. The installation can be done in minutes.
Works on the following models:
2005 - 2009 XB9 models.
2005 - 2009 XB12 models
with aftermarket exhaust systems
. This version will not work on bikes that still have Active Muffler Control (AMC) enabled.
*This will also work on 2004 XB models with a 2005 - 2007 ECM.
Message us if you have a 2008 - 2009 XB12 model with stock exhaust or a 2010 model.
